Family Haven
Board of Directors
Our Board is a group of six carefully selected persons who
have embraced the cause of those with developmental disabilities and who
give of their time and expertise in an advisory capacity.
President, Barbara Fabinak
A licensed social worker for the
past 20 years, Barb has had experience working for profit and not for
profit organizations. These included; nursing homes, a mental health
agency and home care work. In her last position as a community liaison
she was responsible for marketing and educational programs for doctors,
hospitals, and mental health centers. For the past 20 years she has been
involved in church teaching as a confirmation and bible study leader.
Barb also served seven years as the volunteer coordinator at church for
Interfaith Hospitality Network. This involved staffing and coordination
of activities to house homeless families for one week at a time four
times per year. Most recently Barb’s time has been spent on the family
council learning about special education issues and law. She enjoys
helping families learn how to develop their educational plans. Barb has
served on the board of Family Haven since 2004.
Vice President, Christine Pinto
Chris has worked in the
banking/finance industry for 10 years working with Human Resource
systems. Prior to this, she worked with mentally ill consumers in the
state of Ohio to review outpatient care in 6 counties and has managed a
group home for disabled adults diagnosed with psychiatric disorders. She
has a master’s degree from Cleveland State University in Consumer
Industrial Research Psychology.
Treasurer, Patrick Brady
Pat is a CPA with 47 years of
accounting and tax experience. His career includes 8 years in Public
Accounting, 21 years of Corporate Federal and State Income Tax work with
his former employer, and 18 years of various tax and accounting work with
his current employer. For the last four years, he has been semi-retired,
working three days a week.
Pat has been a Board Member of Family Haven, Inc., since its inception by
Sister Genevieve Lane in 1981. During these 27 years, Pat has prepared
all accounting records, prepared all financial statements, filed all
payroll and annual tax returns, worked with the State of Ohio and
Cuyahoga County in establishing annual budgets, and helped in other
financial matters as the need arose. Currently, he is helping to
establish a simple retirement plan for Family Haven, Inc.
In addition to being a Board Member of Family Haven, Inc., Pat has been a
past member of the Finance Board of Our Lady of Angels Parish, and
currently still does prepare the annual financial statements for this
Parish.
Secretary, Sister Jane Ockuly, CSJ
Sister Jane entered the convent in
1956. She attended St. John
College in Cleveland. Her teaching
career included the years 1959-1976; Annunciation School for eight years,
St. Angela Merici School for one year, Our Lady of Angels Principal for
six years and St. Brendan School for two years.
Sister served as Finance Director
of the Sisters of St. Joseph from 1976-1986. She attended Law School at Akron
University. Sister received her
Master’s in Education Administration from John Carroll University. She received her Juris Doctor degree
and passed the Ohio Bar in 1989.
Sister practiced Family and Juvenile Law for 20 years, retiring in
2009. She has served on the Board
of Directors of Providence House, St. Joseph Academy, Family Haven, and
Scarborough Home.
Sister Jane is currently tutoring
adults working on attaining a G.E.D. through Seeds of Literacy.
Colleen Bennett
Colleen has over 20 years
experience in the law firm industry as an office administrator and human
resource manager. She has also
worked in these capacities in a real estate investment firm and a multi-billion
dollar retail company.
In addition to office management
and human resource management, Colleen has had extensive experience in
the daily operations of the various companies she has worked, including
strategic planning, performance management, compensation and benefit
design, financial management, facilities management, and training and
leadership development.
Colleen received her B.A. from
Baldwin Wallace College in Business Administration and has completed half
of her course work toward an M.B.A. at Cleveland State University. In addition to being a Board Member at
Family Haven, she also currently serves as a Board Member for Far West
Center, a
nonprofit mental health provider that provides a variety of mental health
and counseling services in Westlake and Amherst, Ohio. She regularly volunteers at other
nonprofit organizations, including Friends of West Side Catholic Center,
Providence House, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Colleen was instrumental a few years
ago in bringing a group of Home Depot volunteers to Family Haven for a
“make-over”. She, along with Home
Depot associates, painted every room in Family Haven, replaced carpet,
and updated the kitchen.
Gretchen
Losey
Gretchen
has over 10 years experience in the health and wellness industry as a
registered nurse and business owner. Gretchen and her husband own and
operate WellChoice Medical, LLC, a woman-owned small business that is
contracted by the Federal Government and private sector to provide
on-site occupational health and wellness services to employees in Ohio,
Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. In addition, Gretchen
works part-time for Cleveland Clinic Home Care as a Registered Nurse Case
Manager. Her clinical background includes both acute and post-acute care.
Gretchen received her B.A. from John Carroll University and her nursing
degree from Case Western Reserve University Frances Payne Bolton School
of Nursing. She is an active member of St. Raphael’s Parish in Bay
Village, and is a newly appointed board member to Family Haven, Inc.
Gretchen and her family reside in Bay Village, Ohio.
